Game 30: Dodgers vs Milwaukee Brewers 4:3
Today only a quick note, since I'm hitting the road quite eraly tomorrow. One observation from around the game: the cameraman showed Derek Lowe and Brett Tomko exchanging opinions just after Danny Baez wild-pitched the tying run to spoil Lowe's bid for a win (again). They both looked like: "Oh no, not again...". Luckily Nomah bailed us out and the losing streak is over.
Thoughts squeezed in between the bag and first ;):
(1) The wow of the day is definitely Russell Martin. I knew he was more or less ready, but based on what he showed (also defensively) - he's more than ready. 2-for-4, 2 RBI plus very sound positioning behind the plate. While I'm at it, looks like Grady Little was right about Jose Cruz jr. coming out of the slump. 2-for-2 with two walks, while hitting in his favorite No2 spot. Not bad.
(2) AFAIK Brewer starter Chris Capuano was the reigning pitcher of the week in NL, so getting handy 10 hits off of him for a struggling offense like ours isn't that bad.
(3) Dioner Navarro is officially on the 15-day DL, while Odalis Perez has been placed on the bereavement list, while attending to his seriously sick mother. My bet for the Sunday afternoon game: D.J. Houlton is called up for a spot start. Want better news? Bill Mueller will sit out a couple of while NOT going to the DL since the MRI on his knee turned out negative.
(4) Congrats to J.D. Drew for winning the Dodger Player of Month Award for April. It will surely be reflected in the second 15-game analysis I will produce in a couple of days time.
(5) Before we get there, the honor of keeping the pendulum swinging in the right way goes to our ace Brad Penny. He faces Ben Hendrickson, for whom it seems it's going to be the first start of the season.
